These blade type bayonets look similar in appearance to No.9 British bayonets but predate them. These were produced in the Regia Fabricca d'Armi Terni (FAT). They were made with locally produced sockets and the blade of the M1891 bayonets. The socket shank is marked with RI in an oval cartouche for Repubblica Italiana. These bayonets show up in Italian publications in 1946 and 1948. Some are dated 48 on the socket but others were made at least as early as 1946. It is thought that only around 800 of these were produced and most were destroyed. The example in the photo is sold. But I have another example in similar condition
