The blade is leaf shaped with a long false edge. It is completely engraved with decorative patterns. The ricasso is brass clad. This Andalucian style blade is commonly found on plug bayonets. It is much more scarce when found as a socket bayonet. The iron or steel shank is octagonal in cross section and very strong. The iron socket has a three step mortise slot with decorative encircling lines on each end and in the middle. The socket and shank feature the original dark finish while the blade is bright. A really beautiful and scarce hunting socket bayonet. The very tip of the blade has been broken off. It could be easily repointed if you wish.
