French Defense Nationale Remington bayonet w/s.

One of a type found with blades marked Mutzig (8bre 1868). The hilt made with the unchamphered slot to fit the Remington rolling block rifles. Marked with a 4 digit serial number in the slot. It is thought that these blades made before the war were provided to private companies to produced emergency war time bayonets. The scabbard is a standard Chassepot scabbard.
