Reference: Goldstein- The Socket Bayonet in the British Army- pg 86-7.
This is the earliest style of the Dutch/Liege hexagonal bladed socket bayonets. These were known to have been used by England in the 1715-30 time period but were certainly used by other countries as well. A long shank without blade guard. Marked O over 758. This is the earliest type of these with a two step mortise slot. Non-dug. Socket pinched in a bit at the muzzle- probably to fit to a new musket. Originally a 2 step mortise slot this example has had a third step added in its period of use. A super rare socket bayonet. The last time I had one of these for sale was a decade ago.
